The quartet guided the audience through Vivaldi’s iconic suite with elegance and fiery precision. Each season unfolded with its own character and charm: the bright joy of springtime, the tempestuous drama of summer, the rustic revelry of autumn, and the crystalline beauty of winter. The theatre, aglow with the soft light of electric candles, became a landscape of changing skies, winds, and moods—all conjured from the strings of these extraordinary musicians.

With over 100 attendees filling the theatre, the response was nothing short of awe. Every movement of The Four Seasons was met with rapt attention and thunderous applause. The quartet’s ability to draw the audience into the world of the music—through both their technical brilliance and heartfelt expression—made for an unforgettable experience.

Adding to the warmth of the day was the incredible hospitality provided by our very own Emma Pitchfork, who prepared a sumptuous spread of home-cooked delights. Her delicious cooking and baking elevated the event beyond performance into celebration—offering nourishment for both body and soul.
In the second half of the program, the quartet turned to another remarkable work: The American by Romantic-era composer Antonín Dvořák. A favourite among classical radio listeners, especially on stations like RNZ Concert FM, this vibrant piece is rarely performed live. The quartet brought it to life with richness and vitality, offering the perfect contrast to Vivaldi’s timeless classic.

The Lyric Theatre was honoured to host such a powerful and moving event. To witness women in classical music sharing the stage with such grace, passion, and precision was truly inspiring. With extraordinary talent, impeccable interpretation, and an atmosphere of warmth and beauty, Cathy Irons and her quartet reminded us all of the transformative power of live music. We can’t wait to welcome them back.
